Everyone's A Critic

by admin - 23:03 on 17 January 2011

Bess revealed an unexpected aspect of herself today – that of music critic.

Shaker met again tonight, so in preparation I spent the afternoon refreshing my memory of the latest numbers in the set and trying out some of the proposed further additions, of which my favourite was Aerosmith's Eat The Rich.

As songs are currently learned through repeated playings on YouTube, my music room is also the computer room and spare bedroom where Bess likes to take her ease of an afternoon.

In the past she's found nothing objectionable in my musical taste, but today was different. She strolled in, jumped up on to the couch, watched me huffily for a couple of minutes while I mastered (after a fashion) the bass line, then jumped back down and left to sleep on the big bed in the next room.

Clearly, she's not a fan of Aerosmith. Maybe she prefers Bon Jovi, or Steve Tyler's earlier work.

Axe hero Jim was equally underwhelmed, he admitted tonight, which was a surprise. How can any guitarist not like the track? (Although the naff rap at the start should definitely be dropped.) He says he'll give it a go but I suspect that Aerosmith won't figure in the band's new set list. Shame. Have a listen and see what you think.

Book Update: Andrew spent a productive afternoon with Brian the printer, at the end of which all colour problems afflicting The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery had been resolved. Dolphin James and I had delegated him to give final approval, but as Andrew's not a man to rush into things he'll sleep on it and take a final look at the latest test pages in the morning.
