A Fussy Marten and A Snappery Surprise

by admin - 23:05 on 11 January 2011

I was wrong. Pine martens don't like corned beef and luncheon meat. Or maybe it's just Master Marten who's fussy.

Yesterday I was downstairs early enough to look through the living room window and see that Nutella, egg and nuts had been taken overnight but the meat was still there. Not for long, however – the blue tits saw to that.

So tonight he's being spoiled with roast chicken thigh, if Bess or Romeo don't sniff out the feast first. It could get nasty.

The local version of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery made a significant stride toward reality today when Andrew and I took a CD crammed with fine jpegs and QuarkXPress files to Dingwall Printers where they were opened by Brian on his enviably large Mac with enviably up-to-date software. All looked good, especially after the magenta had been toned down a tad.

Tomorrow I'll collect a proof copy, and in the evening Andrew, Dolphin James and I will ensure that everything is as it should be and that every snap has been tweaked to perfection. If so, Brian's John Bull Printing Press could be in action soon after.

This is just as well, for today we made the surprise discovery that Eilean Dubh – The Black Isle is available for pre-order through Amazon in the UK and USA. I presume it's there because we've given it a proper ISBN number, but how Amazon get copies, what their cut is and how we get our hard-earned cash out of them is a mystery that only time will solve.
