The Girl Who Cried Wolf

by admin - 16:22 on 24 June 2013

Hypochondriac Matchgirl (“I'm sure it's a stress fracture”), as has been noted here before, is far from stoic when suffering illness, especially as her colds are worse than anyone else's, so a three-week cough and associated grumbles after her most recent indisposition left me not too concerned about her health, even when she shuffled off to see her doctor this morning.

She returned, vindicated, following diagnosis of a bronchial condition and a cracked rib caused by her hearty cough. Typically, she knows more than the medical experts and believes her rib is merely bruised. At least she had a good excuse for emptying Cromarty Bakery's shelves of cakes.

An inhaler and rest should restore her to health, but possibly not quickly enough for her to train for the Aviemore Half Marathon in October.

Someone else in the wars is Pandora, who was the victim today of unprovoked fisticuffs by first Willow and then Maia (who at least has the excuse of being permanently hungry). Maybe the poor puss doesn't smell like herself at the moment – there seems no other reason for her to suffer rough treatment, unless The Pride is bored because poor weather is keeping it indoors.

Both spats were over in seconds without fur flying or blood being drawn. Let's hope it stays that way.
