A pall of gloom hung over The Rural Retreat today when I returned from attendance at the year's penultimate market. While out training, Matchgirl had injured her knee.

It's too early to say whether this is a brief stumble on the road to London Marathon glory or a more serious hold-up. We might find out tomorrow when Matchgirl meets her physiotherapy guru for a pre-arranged appointment.

Matchgirl's unhappiness put my own dismal day in perspective: a minuscule profit from a long, slow market day is still a profit, and I'd had moderate success at Culbokie yesterday (when I'd also met one of my blog followers – Hi Amanda, it was good to see you).

With luck, Matchgirl will wake tomorrow free of pain or I'll sell a tableful of books, cards and snaps at North Kessock Primary School (1-3pm – don't miss it) and be able to give her a consolation treat. Both would be best, of course. Time will tell.
