Front Page News

“Cat book proves a bittersweet occasion for photographer” reveals today's Ross-shire Journal on the bottom half of its front page. I don't know how a book can be an occasion; the publication of one, perhaps, but not the book itself. The headline-writer must have run out of space.

But I shouldn't be picky – A Cat Called Tess received some great publicity (even if my website address was omitted) and within hours I'd been contacted by a Manchester-based news syndication service which wanted a picture of me. Hmmm. I wasn't told where it hopes to place the story; maybe its reporter has a hotline to Total Cat magazine.

Tess wouldn't have cared about her fame, unless a newspaper snapper turned up with roast chicken to wheedle a pose out of her. Matchgirl, however, is worried that the peace of The Rural Retreat will be disturbed by paparazzi and ringing telephones. It's not been a problem so far.

The RJ as yet has not chosen to put the story on its website, so I'm unable to share it with you. Maybe it will appear in a day or two. However, I can show the snap they used – one of my favourites.

With luck this will lead to satisfactory sales when the book appears on my market table for the first time: in Cromarty tomorrow and Fortrose on Sunday. Come along and buy yours – you'll find times and venues on my Market Dates page.
