Irresistible To Postmen

by admin - 19:12 on 07 January 2012

Disquieting news reached The Rural Retreat a couple of days ago from a generous friend who ordered four copies of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery in early December to give as Christmas presents – they failed to reach his home in Southampton. Maybe they were too much temptation for the postman.

This is the first occasion we know of in which the Royal Mail has failed to make a delivery; fortunately I kept the proof of posting so on Monday I'll have strong words with the management of North Kessock Spar (incorporating the village post office). I suspect that replacement copies will be posted soon afterwards – but not from North Kessock.

Sales of The Bumper Book have passed 1,350, plus an unknown number yet to be ascertained from sale-or-return outlets, but we expect a serious post-Christmas sales decline and a few quiet months until the tourist season begins at Easter. As the book is now my major source of income, this is a nuisance.

However, I remain optimistic – another framed snap (Mrs Marten again) has been snapped up by a viewer of the soon-to-be-relocated exhibition at Eilean Dubh Restaurant. Even better, work on the next volume on the Bassman Books list (its contents are a secret) should begin soon.

In the meantime I'll continue the quiet life, which means lots of opportunity for woodland rambles with Bess. The snaps were taken yesterday. She's such a poser.
