The Calendar Cat

by admin - 22:34 on 31 July 2011

August tomorrow, but who needs a calendar when there's a cat in the house?

Blue Tit 9Bess, who's spent much of the past few months snoozing in her outdoor nests, returned to the bedroom yesterday afternoon, where she was loudly indignant when she discovered that her blanket wasn't in place on the duvet.

She's also re-established the top of the stairs as another snoozing spot – autumn can't be far away.

Earlier this afternoon, a small feline shadow again followed me when I left The Rural Retreat in search of improved wren snaps but after forcing me to go in the wrong direction she lost interest and returned to her comfort blanket without entering the woods.

Blue Tit 10

Perhaps she knew there was no point – there wasn't a wren to be heard, never mind seen. The duller, windier day may have had something to do with it. So I settled for some garden-based blue tit snappery.

My next plan is to construct a posing platform where I can snap them on an authentic-looking branch without a distracting background. So it's fortunate that, since the lopping of the willow tree, there's much suitable timber stacked up outside the cottage, waiting to be put to good use.

Whether I'll ever get round to it, or if my handyman skills are sufficient, is another matter.

Better a goat than a sheep...
