Hurrah for the Holidays

by admin - 22:47 on 26 May 2011

It's been a long, long three weeks of working four days for the benefit of The Chief Gnome. How I used to manage five days a week at GNoME HQ is a mystery.

Late nights on the Mac haven't helped. Preparation of the new edition of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery kept me up past midnight yesterday, not for the first time, and there's still more to do. Not too much, fortunately.

Matchgirl and I are to delay our Great Yorkshire Getaway for a day, which means I'll be able to call Tigger tomorrow and sort out what I'm to send him to enable proofs to be made of the new improved Bumper Book.

It also means I'll have time to leave Mr Ford at RM Motors for a squeak and a suspiciously hot nearside rear wheel arch to be investigated while we're away. There's always something.

I might even have time to get out the Pentax. Martens remain conspicuously absent at snappable times but some very photogenic young sparrows were being fed by mum this morning when I had no time to watch them.

However, if the rain lets up the most pressing task is to mow the lawn, otherwise we'll return in a week to a jungle. Romeo's already made use of its rather shaggy appearance to lurk and salivate over a young cock pheasant who's been seen limping around the garden during the past two days.

The black-and-white bully must have thought he was on to a sure thing but, when he rushed out of cover, Hopalong demonstrated that his wings are in perfect condition. Foiled again.
