Hanging On By A Thread

The worldwide interwebnet might be a wonderful invention, but when the broadband's down it's as useful as a car with no petrol.

To be fair, The Rural Retreat's digital link to the rest of the universe is not completely dead, but a speed of 128k means it might as well be.

“There's a fault on the line,” BT's highly skilled call centre staff told me. “It's now been fixed but won't work properly until next Monday. Don't call again until then.” Which doesn't suggest total confidence in their colleagues' repair abilities.

So don't expect any exciting snaps to be uploaded in the next few days.

It's still too dark to get pictures of Mystery Marten, which is a shame. Last night, after enjoying her egg and some honey-soaked peanuts, she did her impression of a meerkat, standing tall to take a good look around the garden.

An hour later, when I checked to see if she'd returned to finish the peanut butter on the windowsill, I came face to face with Mystery Moggy, who's not been seen for several months.

There was another missed photo opportunity this morning when I stepped outside to see what Mr Pheasant was shouting about and found Romeo, the neighbourhood bully, attempting to reach one of Mr P's wives who'd taken refuge in the high branches of the willow tree.

I chased the murderous moggy away but got no thanks from Mr P, who continued to shout. There's gratitude.
