A Welcome Sight

Master Marten was seen yesterday evening, for the first time this year, at the unexpectedly early time of 8pm. He continues to look in fine health.
Matchgirl spotted him on the windowsill, tucking into mixed nuts and raisins. As usual, he was unconcerned by our presence but didn't stay long because he'd already filled up with egg and Nutella. That meant we had only a couple of minutes to watch him feast before he jumped down and scurried into the undergrowth.
Snappery was impossible with my meagre equipment, but night-time action shots may be taken one day – Dolphin James has at last got his camera trap to work, a couple of snaps to prove it, and big ideas for making use of The Rural Retreat's broad acres.
Master Marten's schedule continues to be unpredictable, however. At the time of writing there'd been no sign of him tonight.
More conventional snappery is planned for tomorrow when James and I go in search of his secret squirrels. If the weather allows us, that is. The Retreat was snow-free today but other parts of the Black Isle got a dusting, as did Inverness, and more is forecast overnight.
Winter's not finished with us yet.
