Anniversary Cake

by admin - 22:50 on 13 September 2010

Bess the ever-ailing pussycat had perked up this morning (as another expired rodent confirmed), which allowed Matchgirl and me to leave her home alone while we marked our second wedding anniversary with a modest lunch at Storehouse of Foulis.

The cakes that followed were distinctly immodest, especially as we've had little in that line for three weeks, although that helped us savour them all the more.

Back home, we discovered a cat who'd run out of perk, so the trip to see Dr Death was undertaken after all. Bess seemed quite laid back about her treatment, which revealed a nick on the side of her mouth as well as a cut tongue. Antibiotics and kitty painkillers were dispensed, but nothing to sooth the indignity of a moggy whose temperature had to be taken.

Her displeasure was impressively vocal, and made in a tone of voice neither Matchgirl nor I had ever heard before. Back home, she left us to sulk upstairs.

The medication must have worked for she descended the stairs later to wolf down large helpings of Sheba. To thank us, she left the cottage and returned with yet another luckless mouse, the beneficiary of which will be The Invisible Pine Marten.

I suspect that the rodent wrecker's recuperation will be swift.
