Rural Peace

Having a garden full of wildlife does have a down side, as was illustrated at 5am today when our sleep was interrupted for a second successive morning, this time by the raucous shrieks of Mr Pheasant.

As a return to the Land of Nod seemed unlikely I settled down behind the Pentax to await the arrival of Master Marten. The Nutella put out after his visit yesterday evening had been devoured overnight so the supply had first been replenished.

His sweet treat was still untouched at 6.30 and remained so at 7.30 when it became clear that he wasn't coming for breakfast. That was when I put together the earlier absence of Nutella and Mr Pheasant's agitation – Master Marten had already been.

So there were no more snaps this morning – the picture above is one of yesterday's – and none this evening either, for he's still not reappeared. Romeo lurking near the bird feeders by the gate may or may not have had something to do with that.

Further photographic news: my trip to Edinburgh tomorrow for the RPS workshop was abandoned at the last minute when I discovered it was intended for aspiring society Fellows, not mere would-be Associates. My mistake.

This was bad news for Dolphin James, who'd been looking forward to spending some quality time alone with Master Marten, but a relief for Matchgirl whose anticipation of a day's shopping in the capital had been dulled by lack of sleep.

It was also a relief for me: after a couple of nights making first use of my new Epson R2880 I'd produced just four prints I would have been happy to put before the Serious Lenses. The time to rethink my proposed ARPS panel might be near.
