Seven Days To Go

by Russell Turner - 21:01 on 25 September 2022

In seven days it will all be over. Today’s eight miles was the final long run of London Marathon training.

Some effort was required. After two recent comfortable 4-mile runs, today’s featured cool temperatures and a very strong wind. Not fun, but I made it to the end. Now all that’s left to do before flying to London is 30mins on Tuesday and 22mins on Thursday to keep me ticking over. There may be 20mins on Friday or Saturday if I can squeeze it in amongst travel, visiting the expo and a jaunt to the Apollo Theatre to see David Mitchell in Upstart Crow.

Carb loading and hydration will also be performed and some decent sleep attempted. Cats permitting. It works the other way, as proved by Matchgirl’s snap of Willow using both shoulder and armchair for her nap, but thought for my comfort is rarely considered by reclining felines.

I continue to be optimistic about my performance next weekend, especially as the weather forecast remains positive, although my currently slightly sore ankles will benefit from a few days of restrained activity. That’s my excuse for being lazy, although the lawn will need to be trimmed at some point. I bet Eliud Kipchoge wasn’t gardening in the week before today’s 2:01:09 new world record at the Berlin Marathon. Some people have it easy.
