Walking To London

by Russell Turner - 16:25 on 27 March 2022

Another Sunday, another DNS. A combination of last night’s gig, the lost BST hour, and general foot ache (partly a result of standing at the gig) meant I was in no mood for a 75min drive to Miltonduff for a 10k I wouldn’t have enjoyed. Such is life. At least that was only £12 wasted.

Yesterday’s 5k test run, combined with completing Mr Physio’s first sets of exercises, may have also contributed to general pedal weariness so today I limited myself to a healthy walk in the spring sunshine. It began with a slight limp but finished better. However, I’ll spurn the exercises today and resume tomorrow when my legs and feet have had more sleep.

The race week plan is to stick to walking until The Big Day. The last time I ran 10 miles was on February 21, which means I’ll have had a six-week taper for London Landmarks, though I’m not expecting – and won’t be attempting – any PB magic. Most likely I’ll follow the 2:15 pacer and her entourage and take in the sights and the atmosphere, hopefully in decent weather.

“Sunny intervals and a gentle breeze” is the current forecast, and temperatures in single figures. If that’s what we get I’ll be happy, as long as my bag-carrier is handy at the end with a warm jacket. Good staff can be a problem.
