New Kits On The Block

by Russell Turner - 14:29 on 02 December 2018

It’s tough when you’re no longer the youngest and prettiest. Our neighbours are the proud owners of two tabby kittens and Pandora hates them.

Maia and Willow don’t seem too concerned but our own tabby spends much of her time staring through the rear window into the courtyard where the interlopers (as yet unnamed and unsexed) have been seen on several occasions. Why they’re allowed out so young is another matter.

Paths have crossed once or twice. Kittens want to be friends but Pandora is unimpressed. So, I’m told, is Percy, the teeny twosome’s step-dad, which will give him and Pandora something else to bond over.

Circumstances mean that Percy and the kittens (good name for a band, that) will be home alone tomorrow night, so I’m on feeding duties, as Matchgirl is also away. I met the youngsters today and ended up with a lapful of sleeping kitten – they’re still at the age when they know no fear of strangers.

The biggest drawback of new kittens is that in a year there may be two more predators bringing terror to surrounding wildlife. You might be able to feed a cat a vegan diet, according to some people, but what they feed themselves will likely be much more bloody.
