A Bit Of A Boost

by Russell Turner - 20:15 on 21 March 2018

In the end I stopped trying to dodge rain and decided I’d run today whatever. The Weather Gods rewarded me by stopping the rain an hour before I was ready to step outside and keeping the road dry for the rest of the day. The wind didn’t drop, though. Fortunately it was in my face for only ten minutes on the way out (although most of that was uphill) and five on the way back.

The target was 60 minutes of non-stop running, which I achieved with relative ease. Running downhill for much of it, after the early ascent, was a big help. Six miles was hit at 63 minutes; not rounding it up to 10k distance would have been a waste, especially as it would be a personal best. So it’s a shame I stopped at 6.11 miles instead of 6.21. Doh!

Today was a good confidence boost for Friday when I face at least 150 minutes and 14 miles, possibly in inclement weather. After last week’s mis-judged 12-miler, for the first time I’m a bit apprehensive about a run. This feels like one I’ve got to do well (with regard to comfort, not speed). Wish me luck.

At least I’m not suffering like poor Matchgirl, who’s in the throes of a cold and sounds like Lee Marvin, when she’s able to speak at all – not good preparation for her first ultra marathon (30 miles) the weekend after next. Wish her luck too.

Feline Update: Spring must be here: Willow and Pandora are spending more time outside, with unfortunate consequences for local wildlife, and having occasional disagreements inside (usually provoked by The Tabby Terror). It could be a long year.
