Work For Idle Paws

by Russell Turner - 19:56 on 17 January 2018

Cats have to make their fun indoors when the garden’s blanketed in snow. Like rummaging inside the kitchen bin when I forgot to shut the lid (Pandora and Maia), or chasing a bird across the room and leaping on to the television to grab it (Pandora).

How the bird came to be inside is a mystery. The most likely culprit is Willow, who has previous for bring prey inside and clumsily letting hold. Or maybe it played dead then chose a bad time to seek freedom. I didn’t see what it was before Pandora disappeared through the cat-flap and beneath Grandson of Seat for an alfresco snack, but two dead wrens in recent days may be an indication.

I’m partly to blame because a busy day of work left no time to help ease feline cabin fever, although I did find time to clear a track through the snow to the willow tree so they’d not have to do their business indoors. Maia, the home-loving cat, chose to stay inside despite my efforts.

The snow’s likely to still be here tomorrow but with no fresh falls and gritters up and down the road I should be able to resume running in the morning – a mere forty minutes for the beginning of Week 4.

It’s been a good week for sponsorship with three new supporters in the last three days. If you’d like to be the tenth on the list, the link’s at the top of the page, beneath the countdown clock. I’m almost halfway to my £500 target. Every little helps.
