A Peaceful Day

by Russell Turner - 16:17 on 22 June 2017

Garden wildlife was given a reprieve today – as far as I know, nothing has met an untimely end in the jaws of cats. I was even allowed to stay in bed until 7am, when the desire for breakfast forced Willow to tap me politely on the shoulder. Maia’s clawing of the bedclothes was more forceful. Pandora, as ever, showed restraint.

In celebration of this more peaceful atmosphere, today’s snap features local flora rather than fauna, taken at the conclusion of our second walk. The first had been brought to an untimely end by a red-faced runner who sent The Pride fleeing back home. You’d think they’d be used to such a sight by now.

This common spotted orchid has still got some growing to do, so I’ll keep an eye on its development and keep fingers crossed for its survival as it’s not inside The Rural Retreat’s protective boundary.

Common Spotted Orchid

You could always take it home and give it a safe home (just for protection you understand.) I am sure a safe corner in the grounds of the Rural Retreat would be fitting for such a fine plant.

We get them sometimes but not so far this year despite leaving the lawn fallow for so long.
