Lates Nights And Early Mornings
by Russell Turner - 17:03 on 28 May 2017
Recent days have been a challenge for cats. Matchgirl’s been away then gone again, meaning that last night they were left home alone from 5.45pm, when I left for the Skye gig, until 3.30am, when I returned with the dawn.
I’d expected them all still to be tucked up in their choice of basket, bed or sofa but Maia was already pacing the kitchen when I entered The Rural Retreat and the rest of The Pride joined her shortly after, desperate for the supper they’d missed the night before.
My hopes that such a late (or early) snack would disturb their routine were to be disappointed – Willow and Maia were both prowling over and around my bed at 7am and forced me to rise by 8am. Cats like their breakfast.
So it’s been a quiet day since then. It would be early bed were it not for the Tommy Cooper show at Eden Court tonight – I suspect it will be worth the effort. As for the gig, at King Haakon’s in Kyleakin, that was also worth the effort thanks to an enthusiastic audience.
The only down side was the plague of midges. Especially hard hit was drummer Duncan. Midge bites and sunburned skin should be avoided.
