Something To Look Forward To

by Russell Turner - 21:39 on 25 January 2017

2017 continues its promise as The Year of Entertainment. With just three days before Matchgirl and I head south for a sparkly weekend in Glasgow at Strictly Come Dancing Live, today I snapped up the last two tickets to see Susan Calman at Eden Court in Inverness in April. I didn’t know she was touring, but hearing her on The News Quiz led me to Google and the good news.

My laggard discovery had one drawback – the two remaining tickets were single seats, two rows apart, but at least I’ll be able to see the back of Matchgirl’s head (or she’ll see mine) as we enjoy the comedy.

Having gigs and events to look forward to is a boon because there’s little else happening at the moment – City Limits is going through a quiet patch, Bassman Books is between publications and Pentax inspiration has dried up.

There’s some excitement tomorrow evening, however, when I give a talk about my life as the Black Isle’s leading publisher and editor (heavily assisted by audio visual accompaniment) to the lucky members of Inverness 41 Club. I may even sell a few books. And next week I dust off the bow-tie when I take Matchgirl to the Press Ball, where we’ll learn if Chatterbox is again an award-winner.

But otherwise life is quiet, unlike Matchgirl’s. Catching up with a big work backlog has led to stress and late nights. And don’t mention the tax return. On Saturday she may be the one snoring on the balcony as the Strictly dancers twirl. Life can be hard.
