The Monster In The Corner

by Russell Turner - 10:53 on 22 October 2016

Cats and vacuum cleaners – what’s the problem? Just bringing out the Dyson is enough to get Willow and Pandora shuffling nervously. Switch it on and they’re straight upstairs to the sanctuary of the bedroom or through the cat-flap where they mooch around until the scary noise has finished.

Yet Maia, who has a much more jaundiced view of life, is surprisingly laid back about the purple-and-yellow monster which she’ll watch – or, more usually, ignore – from the security of the shelf above the radiator. Why give up a warm spot if you don’t have to?

Yesterday she was at ground level, in her comfy new extra-large bed (next to a radiator, of course), when cleaning operations began. At one point the Dyson was a mere couple of feet from her, yet she did no more than open one unimpressed eye before continuing her studied indifference.

Simon’s Cat could learn a lot from our girl.
