Difficult Driving Decisions

by Russell Turner - 21:04 on 06 October 2016

Matchgirl has decided – Agent Cooper, the Mini she bought six years ago and believed to be The Best Car Ever (apart from the Cooper S, which was beyond her pocket) has got to go. His rattles and growing garage bills have proved too much.

However, this decision leads to an even more agonising one – what to buy next.

For the last few days there has been much searching of the internet to seek out contenders for his parking spot, then even more searching to gather information about the pros and cons of the pre-owned dream machines to be found on websites of dealers as far flung as Perth, Aberdeen and Stirling. No possible successor will be overlooked.

Will they be fast enough? Will they be the right colour? Will they have acceptable mpg? Will I (a minor consideration) be able to fit in the passenger seat? It’s a tough time for a girl who always believes that something better may be just around the corner.

Some local test driving took place today, at the end of which the (current) shortlist was down to two: an Audi A1 and a Citroen DS3. But one has 36,000 miles and the other is yellow.

The hunt goes on, although I won’t be surprised in the slightest if she treks to Stirling to buy the thirsty, impractical but totally wonderful Mazda MX5 of which she speaks with such enthusiasm.

So the Mokka was ruled out, then? I'd love a yellow car - you'd never lose it in the car park! :-)
