Murder Most Damp

by admin - 16:47 on 05 June 2014

The deluge that fell on most of the country yesterday reached us today, which meant that the garden paddling pool is filling up nicely and three cats spent most of the morning asleep in various chairs while rain battered the windows and tested the guttering. It's just as well that, after hearing the forecast, I cut the lawn yesterday.

However, even rain won't deter the determined. Willow, aka The Terminator, had started my day at 7am when blood-curdling growling from beneath the bed made sleep an impossible dream. The Grey Streak was driven from The Rural Retreat, her mouth filled with another ex-blue tit. If left under the bed the mess she'd make would be indescribable. Matchgirl was already up thanks to Maia who'd been dying up hunger since 5am.

Following a relaxing morning, and a slight lessening of precipitation, Willow resumed her hunt in the late afternoon with fatal consequences for a tree sparrow. It's fortunate that Maia's a stay-at-home and Pandora currently wants to be a lap cat.

As my hopes of taking Kawasaki San for a spin today were rained off, I passed the morning by giving a new look to the Black Isle Writers website, of which I'm now in charge. Take a look – you can even buy our silver anniversary anthology, Quicksilver, which gets its official launch on Saturday. At only £5 it's a bargain.
