Stepping Into Spring

by admin - 19:42 on 10 March 2014

Spring returned today, much to the delight of The Rural Retreat's feline residents. I don't know what they got up to this morning, as I was out and about delivering books and cards to needy outlets, but they enjoyed much of the afternoon ambling around the garden and leaping back and forth through their cat-flap.

Both of The Fearless Ones spend increasing amounts of time staring into two gaping holes, beneath the two bird feeders, beyond which is the huge vole community that dwells beneath the lawn and emerges at night to stuff itself with spilled seed. Rising rodent aromas must tantalise our small game hunters.

The holes are not (yet) big enough for foraging felines so the unfortunate victim that Pandora carried proudly up the drive this afternoon must have been a member of the family that lives along the verges. Willow and Maia watched with interest but weren't inspired to follow her example.

The only down side of the good weather is that I now have no excuse not to begin gathering the massive amount of twigs and small branches that cover the garden, and around, through and over which cats must walk. It's no wonder that Maia steps so daintily.
