The Advantages Of Age

by admin - 22:27 on 09 December 2013

There are one or two advantages to increasing age (although Matchgirl disputes that hotly). Today, after receiving an outrageous insurance renewal quote for Kawasaki San (who despite having not turned a wheel for more than a year still complies with the law), I entered his details into The Bike Insurer to see what it would throw up.

The result was a new policy for less than a third of the original quote. Downgrading his value from the secondhand price I paid fourteen years ago to something more realistic may have helped, but certainly not by two-thirds.

“So what company made the cut-price offer?” I hear you ask. “Saga Select,” I reply. I'd inquire about their holidays too, as the couples in their ads always seem to be having great fun, but Matchgirl would not be impressed, and that's despite losing the stress of planning her own getaways.

She's just about sorted the transport for our jaunt to Malta in February for her next half marathon, and is almost certain about the accommodation she wants, which will most likely be a self-catering flat (with me as the caterer, of course).

So today I braved the photo booth in Dingwall's Tesco so I can apply to renew my long-lapsed passport. The results were so horrific I may return tomorrow and try again. Sometimes the camera does lie.
