Time To Train

by Russell Turner - 21:37 on 16 July 2019

Training for the Great North Run and Yorkshire Marathon began today when I leapt into the programme at Week 3 because there’s only 14 to go until Matchgirl and I return to York on October 20.

The Running Queen will be impressed that I completed three miles without looking at the Garmin, pacing myself by effort alone. That turned out to be a proper easy pace; whether I can do the same again tomorrow, when I have to run 50 minutes at steady pace, remains to be seen.

Earlier I’d checked the Bushnell to find out who’d visited last night. The answer was that both the fox and badger were back, at slightly overlapping times, but weren’t caught on camera together. Maybe tonight.

But what of the wandering cat? The vagabond was Rafi, one of next door’s fast-growing kittens, now a year old, whose face had jumped out at me while I browsed Black Isle Noticeboard on Facebook. The poster believed him to be lost, which may have been true, for when Lili made the epic 500-yard journey to the formerly tumbledown steading, now transformed into posh holiday lets, where he’d made friends with since-departed visitors, he’d seemed pathetically keen to greet her, she reported.

He’s home now, much to the displeasure of mild-mannered Percy, who treats his juniors in the same way Maia treats hers yet has no problem with members of The Pride. Unlike them with him. Cat pecking orders are a mystery.
