Not London At The Double (For Now)
by Russell Turner - 16:48 on 09 July 2026
No London Marathon ballot place for me. Such is life. The odds were poor but I was hopeful that I’d receive my tenth London Marathon medal in London, rather than in the post.
Hope remains. Because I’m so keen to take part in the allegedly one-off weekend I’ve applied to several charities for places: Breast Cancer Now, Cats Protection, Prostate Cancer UK and Age UK. I don’t expect a swift response (other than the auto email) because they’ll doubtless be swamped by other ballot failures. Fingers crossed.
If my luck continues to be bad I’ll have to settle for another virtual run and a proper marathon in the autumn. I have Yorkshire pencilled in but maybe the time has come to take on Loch Ness, six years after I got one day from running it before being felled by covid. Training had gone so well too…

In the meantime, 10k preparation continues with Durham just a week away, although the heatwave means it won’t be a PB effort. The Weather Gods are teasing me, though. The forecast for my next two runs, tomorrow and Saturday, shows rain. It would be nice to think that it would be refreshing but humidity remains high. At least it won’t be cold.
