A Gift For Janice came third in the 2016 Black Isle Writers competition.
The Writers was winner of the 2015 Black Isle Writers annual competition.
Redemption Song was runner-up in the 2014 Black Isle Writers annual competition.
Time made it on to a longlist of 50 after being chosen from "several hundred" entries in the Flash 500 winter 2013 competition. It failed to reach the shortlist of 25. Close but no cigar.
The Cat was a runner-up in the 2010 Limnisa short story competition.
Life and Death and Albert Smethwick was a runner-up in the 2009 Rider Haggard Society short story competition.
When Worlds Collide was written for a competition held in December 2008 by the Highland Rape and Abuse Line. Despite that it's a light-hearted tale – and it won the prize for the best local entry. In April 2009 the story won second prize in a contest run by Writers Reign and was published on its website.
Suddenly I See was the result of a challenge from another writer who gave me a character and a situation and left me to invent the rest. It was published in the February 2008 edition of Random Acts of Writing.
