Home In The Highlands

The Highland weather had been great, Matchgirl reported on my return to The Rural Retreat yesterday, and the members of The Pride had been little pussycat angels (apart from Willow's plate-smashing lapse), living quietly, sleeping peacefully, leaving wildlife alone and never begging for food.

That all changed within minutes of my arrival: biscuits were begged, chases performed and a headless rodent brought indoors for our inspection. Matchgirl blames my over-stimulating presence. I think she may have been exaggerating their saintliness.

Or maybe it was the drugged haze through which she spoke. The Great Athlete was full of codeine to ease the pain of a damaged back, caused not by sporting activity but by bending over to put air in Agent Cooper's tyres. I suspect the true cause was over-excitement when she thought pouty Ruby was about to get the elbow from The Great British Bake Off.

She's a little better today, I'm happy to report. The restorative power of lunch with a friend and shopping at a boutique should be harnessed by the NHS.

I may not have managed any decent Borders snaps, but you can always rely on cats. Here's Willow playing hide and seek in the garden today. It's good to be back.

Oh yes, lunch and shopping - guaranteed to restore mental well-being at least, if not physical! Glad the tour went well, and hope Matchgirl is soon up and running again.
