What Storms?

by admin - 18:50 on 15 September 2013

The storm-driven apocalypse forecast for today has so far proved a bit of a let down. The lawn is carpeted with golden birch leaves, there have been occasional downpours, and the fresh breeze suggests that winter's not far away, but as yet there's no sign of gales, floods and crashing trees. Maybe tomorrow.

We could have gone for an autumnal stroll but Matchgirl preferred vicarious exercise and dreams of the future by watching the Great North Run on television. That over, I put Paul Hollywood's How To Bake to its first practical use and produced two loaves: one white, one brown. He demands more rising and proving than do the simple recipes I've used so far but the results are worth it. White bread never tasted so good. Amazing, especially with some posh cheeses.

Afterwards, I was accompanied by The Fearless Ones while I took some fresh air. Matchgirl wasn't with us to see Pandora make further examinations of local pipework, which was fortunate. I'm tempted to put our puss in the gutter and encourage her to explore the downspout, which needs unblocking, but suspect that Matchgirl would object. I don't see why – it's about time that The Pride earned its keep.
