Just Another Training Run

by admin - 20:36 on 17 March 2013

The snow didn't reach the Highland Capital, much to Matchgirl's relief, so she was able to take part in the Inverness Half Marathon with no fear of ice-related incidents.

Training is paying off – she completed the run in two hours fifteen minutes: faster than her debut half marathon in Aviemore and over a more difficult course. Not that she was trying to beat that time. This was just another stepping stone on the road to London so over-exerting herself would be silly...

In typical Matchgirl style her immediate reaction was to bemoan the fact that so many runners had finished ahead of her, including the Ethiopian who won the women's race in sixty-six minutes, but the finishing-line grin was soon back on her face – until it was time for her muscle-relaxing cold bath. She's a toughie, although the yells were impressive.

More impressive is that she ran with a foot injury, although she has no-one but herself to blame. When you wear striped black-and-white socks they're certain to be mistaken for a zebra by a kitten who thinks she's a lion.

Willow – the guilty party – grows dafter by the day, much of which she spends racing around The Rural Retreat in pursuit of toys and her tail, jumping on and off furniture and bothering other felines who'd prefer to sleep. Life's one long game when you're a grey-and-white kitten.

Willow 3

One of Willow's first portraits – she's hardly changed at all.
