Night And Day

by admin - 20:38 on 07 July 2012

Yesterday's blog post inspired a sad comment from Squirrel James bemoaning the fact that he's almost forgotten what martens look like, it's so long since he's seen one.

I know how he feels; sightings here are poor compared with the last couple of years. I blame Cap'n Gnome whose thoughtless treatment of me has left me with no need to be up and about at 7am to see morning martens. I suppose I could make the effort...

We had a very brief glimpse tonight, at 7.30, but Young Marten left quickly, disgruntled by the lack of food – if I put it out too early it's nicked by hungry birds.

Visits still take place every night after dark, the Bushnell confirms, so especially for James here's the most recent marten snap in a montage with another frequent diner at The Nutella Stump (which you'll notice is growing like a weed).

I'm having that same problem with crows. They must watch from a distance then swoop in as soon as I go. I was in the hide today watching midges (and squirrels)when a crow squaked at me, I almost passed out with fright! If I was a member of the SGA...
