The Travails Of A Poorly Puss... Continued

by admin - 21:10 on 23 June 2012

I'd intended just a quick blog tonight, to assure eager readers that we're still here, living quietly and with little to report, but that was before poor Bess showed an increase in a new and alarming symptom Matchgirl first observed yesterday.

Our puss, who's given every sign of recovery from her recent medical problems, now appears to be weak in one of her rear legs – so weak that she sometimes staggers when she walks. No pain seems to be involved and appetite is healthy.

Tonight, after a particularly impressive stagger, the insurance company's on-call vet was consulted and confirmed Matchgirl's belief that this was a case which deserved the attention of the out-of-hours vet at Dr Death's clinic. She was duly phoned.

Following her advice, a formerly redundant drug at the back of Bess's bulging medicine cabinet was administered; the patient will be watched closely and a report phoned in tomorrow, when further treatment will be considered. High blood pressure may be the culprit.

All this has come at a bad time for Matchgirl, who returns to Shetland tomorrow. This means I'll be in charge of patient transport and care for three days. Poor Bess. Poor Matchgirl.

Pine Marten 13

The most recent snap of Young Marten, taken three days ago

Wildlife Update: Young Marten has been seen in almost-daylight a couple of times in recent days. However, she still refuses to climb The Nutella Stump while I watch. The Stump, incidentally, has put out more green shoots which augurs well for its long-term survival.

Earlier in the week, an apparently hale-and-hearty cat could be seen stalking birds and staring intently at a patch of lawn which later sprouted something that looked very like a molehill. Whatever problems she may have, defective hearing isn't among them.

Poor Bess I hope it is just a temporary problem that passes quickly. Please give her an extra cuddle from us.
