Autumn Gold

This is the time of year when Matchgirl – who dreams of holidaying in Lapland and Antarctica (although not in the same week) – prefers to stay indoors where the temperature's warm and there's easy access to comforting mugs of hot tea.

Therefore, I was honoured that she chose to accompany me this morning on another jaunt past Loch Achilty and along Strathconon, where the puddles at the side of the road were still frozen at midday. Mighty mountains mean that some places will get little direct sunlight until March.

The good news was the lack of wind, so I didn't put my ears at risk when I left the comfy interior of Agent Cooper to snap some of the scenic splendour to be found there.

Two souvenirs of autumn survived quality control. A few more weeks and the snaps will be of frost- or snow-covered trees. Only five months until spring...
