A Wise Decision

by Russell Turner - 16:20 on 13 August 2020

The Yorkshire Marathon organisers have at last bitten the bullet and scrapped this year’s event, so there’ll be no return to God’s Own Country this year. Shame. That means I now have seven races carried forward to next year, virus and gigs permitting.

Virtual marathon training continues, incorporating the Great North Run Solo challenge of 40 runs in 79 days. This climaxes on September 13, when the virtual Great North Run takes place, although it will happen without me because distance tracking involves use of an official smartphone app. I’m still not a user.

Today’s training run – including both tempo and hills on yet another warm, humid day – brought me to run 30 and 300km; during Sunday’s 18-mile long run I’ll hit another GNR Solo target: 200 miles.

There may be not many races this year but I’ll still have a few achievements – and the medals to prove it.
