Dirty Dancing In Nairn

by Russell Turner - 17:19 on 11 March 2018

It’s been a good weekend for City Limits: first a wedding in Nairn, featuring some spectacularly uninhibited dancing from two of the male guests, then a pub gig a night later, also in Nairn, featuring a small but appreciative crowd. On both nights the Dirty Dancing lift was attempted; it’s worth playing Time Of My Life just to watch. One day a couple will succeed.

The only down side of the trips to Nairn was a worryingly metallic sound which emanated from beneath Grandson of Seat. Arnold Clark will be contacted tomorrow, when I’ll find out if the free servicing deal was worth the money I paid for it. The car’s still under warranty so I’m hopeful that my finances won’t be impacted too badly.

Further proof of the precariousness of gig income came from a panicked bride who contacted us to say her wedding venue – one of seven wedding bookings we have in August – was on the point of bankruptcy and her big day might not go ahead. Another couple, due to splice the knot with our help in September, had managed to shift their wedding to another hotel but the first bride was still in headless chicken mode. Understandably. With luck she’ll sort things out.

Despite the late nights my legs still feel in good condition and ready for another week’s action. One milestone that passed unnoticed during Friday’s long run was the 200th mile of training. The Garmin tally now stands at 207 miles and should be somewhere around 300 – more than 12 marathons – by the time Matchgirl and I head to London at the end of April.

Six weeks to go.
