The Lurkers In The Garden

by Russell Turner - 19:27 on 21 May 2017

Two weeks of sunshine, two days of rain and a broken lawnmower means The Rural Retreat’s lawn is now rapidly approaching a state where cats will be able to lurk in long grass anywhere they choose.

Earlier today, Willow and Pandora could be glimpsed hunkered down in the particularly long grass beneath the apple tree feeder, staring so intently into the vole hole that Mr Pheasant, who’d been dining beneath the other feeder, was able to edge past them unmolested when he returned to his territory at the bottom of the garden.

The replacement mower handle has arrived, but as that coincided with the turn in the weather I’ve not yet been able to put it to use. Two more showery days are forecast. By the time the sun returns I might need specialist equipment to level the lawn.

Lack of outdoor work has at least allowed me to make swift progress with the latest Chatterbox which is now complete bar some proofreading and the addition of some Jamaican netball results. Black Isle links spread further than you might imagine.
