The Catwalk Queen

There's just a week before the Highlands and Islands Press Ball, when Chatterbox will learn if it's the Community Newspaper of the year, so today was an important one for Matchgirl.

She spent much of yesterday hunting for suitable apparel for The Big Night but returned to The Rural Retreat disheartened. Nowhere had anything she liked or that fitted. Life is hard.

Today, she tried again, her desperation driving her inside Rouge, an Inverness emporium she'd previously dismissed with a sneer as offering only frumpy mother-of-the-bride-style dresses. Much, much later she emerged weighed down by bags containing a choice of outfits and many accessories.

Back home, she modelled two frocks that were stylish and not at all frumpy – one black and silver, the other black and white. Matchgirl will go to the ball, although the matter of shoes has still to be settled.

No surprise there. It's tough being a leader of fashion.
