Two Happy Cats

Sometimes pussycat dreams come true

Matchgirl left for the office today after giving Willow and Maia their lunchtime snack. An agitated Pandora hurried in shortly after she left, clearly worried that she'd missed out, but I'd as I'd been warned about her absence there was no problem. I broke off from my labours on the next Chatterbox to go downstairs, feed the hungry tabby and give a few bonus biscuits to the rest of The Pride so they wouldn't pester her for more, then returned work.

Seconds later, the sound of an opened almost-full bag of James Wellbeloved fish-flavoured low-fat biscuits hitting the kitchen floor reminded me that, in my haste to complete the Black Isle's best magazine, I'd forgotten to move their food from the worktop to the cupboard.

Back in the kitchen I found Maia and Willow, surrounded by fishy snacks, eating as fast as they could, although they did manage to increase their speed when I began scooping handfuls of biscuits back into the bag. Poor Pandora, who'd returned to the garden after lunch, missed everything.

I was able to retrieve the bulk of the biscuits; the feline vacuum cleaners hoovered up the rest.

Some time later, my own lunch was interrupted by a black cat regurgitating half-digested fishy snacks on to the living room carpet. Whether Maia will recognise the moral in this tale remains to be seen, but I'm not holding my breath.
