Venturing Into Valletta

by admin - 19:12 on 24 February 2014

Our last full day in the Mediterranean didn't quite live up to expectations. Matchgirl has still not recovered her sparkle – she now believes stomach flu is to blame for her incapacity rather than food poisoning – so a quiet morning was followed by an optimistic but possibly ill-advised venture into Valletta for some afternoon sightseeing.

We quickly realised that tourist pursuits didn't suit Matchgirl's delicate condition so after a brief exploration of its rugged streets and a look inside the incredibly gaudy cathedral we took the ferry back across the sun-drenched harbour to Sliema and our luxury hideaway at the Pebbles Boutique Hotel.

We missed an earlier ferry by seconds, which left us with thirty minutes on the dockside until the next one – not a hardship, as it happened, for entertainment was provided by five feral cats who sat patiently beside an unconcerned fisherman in the hope of scraps.

The scene was captured by the Pentax. It's had a quieter time than I'd hoped but if the snap is any good I'll be happy. You can never have too many pictures of cats.
