Hold The Front Page

There's barely a month until the spring edition of Chatterbox hits the Black Isle's streets and the pressure is beginning to tell on its new editor.

Will there be enough text and pictures to fill the projected 44 A4 pages? Will there be too much? Can that politician be allowed to say that? Is that report accurate? Such responsibility; the Chief Chatterer says she's had some sleepless nights.

I, on the other hand, am enjoying working with my ancient QuarkXPress 4.1 software (vintage 1998) – a reminder of old times aboard the good ship GNoME when she sailed serenely through the Highland seas, before her crew was chained to their oars and lashed daily by the Chief Gnome's ruthless Master-at-Arms.

Whether the readers (and some of the more conservative production team) will appreciate a gentle professional polish being put on their publication remains to be seen. At least the Chief Chatterer is on my side, so I've got my fingers crossed she can make it past the first deadline next week and the second at the end of the month before she has her breakdown.

Chatterbox will be out in early March. Reserve your copy now. It might be the last.

My trusty Mac will be on overtime soon, for I'm about to begin work on the mystery project (the author has requested a media blackout) that will become the third title on the Bassman Books list. There's even a small chance that in the fullness of time the secrecy-shrouded volume will contribute to my monthly income.

At this rate I might achieve self-sufficiency just before I draw my pension.
