Early Morning Calls

by admin - 22:51 on 19 May 2011

There was an early start this morning for the residents of The Rural Retreat. At 5am (not for the first time) Bess decided that she needed some company, and she invariably gets what she wants.

More sleep-shattering noise erupted an hour later, this time from outside the cottage where much indignant avian activity was taking place. After a couple of minutes I put two and two together and looked out of the bedroom window, down on the garden gate where a pine marten was feasting on the goodies ignored the night before.

The visitor had gone by the time I got downstairs for a proper look, so I don't know who it was.

This is a concern. If our martens decide that they prefer to breakfast at the Retreat, rather than eat supper, I'll have to be up early to get the new snaps I'm after.

But a wildlife snapper has to suffer for his art. Just ask James, whose secret martens continue to give him the runaround. Little blighters.
