Blood and Books

by admin - 23:20 on 07 October 2010

Life's been quiet in The Rural Retreat during the past two days, the silence disturbed only by the rustle of turning pages (and Matchgirl's fascination with Masterchef and Lord Alan Sugar). I'd planned to further expand The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery but a brace of novels and a comfy chair were too much of a distraction. I am still on holiday, after all.

There were a couple of sallies into the real world today, however, first of them a trip to Inverness to do my duty as a blood donor. For years this has taken place in a Free Church hall, so the new venue – The Ironworks – was a bit of a contrast.

I've grown used to reading Biblical texts while I lie on my back and let the blood pour out of me. Today the writing on the wall included warnings not to throw glasses, crowd surf or buy drinks for minors. The information that earplugs are available behind the bar was no encouragement to return on an evening when the regular crowd is in residence.

My second trip out was tonight, to Cromarty Camera Club where the first of the season's internal competitions was held. As the results aren't revealed until next week I'll have seven days to wait until I discover how my efforts were received by fellow members. Such drama.
