Ouch

Tomorrow's the day that Matchgirl and I leave The Rural Retreat to spend a night at our latest swish hotel, the Loch Ness Lodge.

Matchgirl's looked forward to the opportunity to wear a posh frock and choose something from her extensive collection of girly shoes, so yesterday wasn't a good time to drop a gate (not ours) on her foot.

The swelling and bruising have developed nicely, along with her fear of cracked bones, future arthritis and the end of her career as a marathon runner. She's never been one to let the opportunity of drama slip past.

What she'll be able to wear with her posh frock remains to be seen – I've not ruled out one slinky slingback and one leopard-print slipper. Time will tell.

Common Lizard 9

My efforts to become a renowned lizard snapper continue to fall short of the mark, as the latest snap confirms. I continue to blame inappropriate lenses. I'll persevere.

Moggy Update: Bess has still not cast off all suspicion that Spider will return. In place of her favourite basket, from where she used to be able to see the interloper snooze in hers, she's taken to resting in the cat pyramid we bought for her some time again but which was spurned after little more than a cursory sniff.

The sight of her curled up in her pyramid has a high cute factor, but one unlikely to be captured by snappery because her refuge is tucked away beneath the dining table and a flashgun would disturb her. Shame.

Poor MG, with a nurse like you she has no chance plus she will have to be a passanger in clumsy Mr Ford!

Virtual sympathy heading your way. J,G, A&J
