The Nutella Thief

by admin - 23:42 on 01 July 2010

Pine martens are not the only wandering visitors who enjoy Nutella, we discovered today.

The mystery moggy caught stealing marten treats had not been seen in the garden before but may be the creature glimpsed nearby that I'd hoped was a wildcat. Clearly, it isn't.

It ran when it was spotted but returned briefly on two further occasions to sample the hazelnut spread that goes down so well with the garden's wildlife. Honey and nuts were of no interest.

The mystery moggy: those are hazelnuts on the gate, not the results of feline fear

Matchgirl now fears that Bess will have to cope with the bullying of another stranger, but this one looked as timid as our Alpha Cat.

Miss Marten made several visits tonight too, only the first of which was in snappable light. This was a shame, for she later enjoyed the buttercup patch goodies and spent some time clambering around The Nutella Tree.

Marten 60

Our guardian of the gatepost at the bottom of the drive was also seen today. I took several snaps but badly chosen aperture meant most were rejected for reasons of focus. Lack of it, to be precise, which I wasn't. The one that remained isn't good, although it will do for now; I hope to get better in the future.
